Dear New Divers, Welcome to the wonderful sport of freediving! Below is a little bit about our mentorship program, we hope it will help you begin your adventures in freediving. The goal of the Vancouver Apneist Club’s Mentorship Program is to provide new freedivers with an experienced and safe buddy. The mentor will be someone who can answer some of your questions and help you with things like gear selection, good pools to train at, places to dive etc. This is a free, much appreciated service from our club members performed on their own personal time. This isn’t a teaching service but an informational buddy program. The purpose of the Mentorship Program is to introduce new divers to freediving in a safe and comfortable environment. It will help a beginner develop the basic skills and safety necessary for freediving before taking a course or clinic. Knowledgeable mentors are provided by the club and they will buddy up with the new divers as they begin their freediving pursuits. For those of who are more interested in recreational freediving we hope to pair you with a mentor who can show you some great local dive sites and can introduce you to the safety and buddy system that goes along with open water diving. But for new divers who are more interested in competition we hope to pair you with a mentor who is experienced in competition and knows the rules and safety. And for the ones who are interested in all aspects you may dive with one or more mentor to get a full understanding of the sport. For inquiries or to participate in the Mentorship Program you can contact the Vancouver Apneist Club Board through email at board@vancouverapneist.com We look forward to diving with you! |
