On monday April 20th at 7:00pm Dr. Harrison from VGH will be putting on a presentation for our club. Although the risk of DCS is rare for freedivers, Dr. Harrison is the leading expert in hyperbaric medicine in Vancouver. He will be providing us with information about freediving and the risks of DCS. He will also be giving us an actual tour of the brand new chamber! Dr. Harrison has been an MD since 1983, and he originally worked in Family Medicine/Emergency Medicine. He worked at VGH emergency from 1990-2007 and was director of the EM training program. He is also an Associate Clinical Professor at UBC. Dr. Harrison has been doing Hyperbaric Medicine for 8 years, and has been managing the chamber since 2003. At this particular chamber in Vancouver, Dr. Harrison treats between 15-30 cases of DCS and gas embolism per year. For all those interested we will be meeting at the HBU on the ground floor of JPP North at 7pm. This is an exciting opportunity for our local divers and will hit on important safety issues! |
