Line Diving at Ansell Place

2012/04/21 11:30 am

We will be heading to Ansell Place for a bit of line diving on Saturday, April 21 wind and weather permitting. Slack tide is at 12:40 so we'll plan to get in the water just after 12:00.

Line diving is not only great training for competitions it's also good way to work on equalization and just being more comfortable underwater. Everyone is welcome to join us, beginners and seasoned competitors alike!

If you've never been out with us before then send us an email and we can talk about what to expect and what gear to bring.

Pool Training at UBC Pool

2012/04/18 7:30 pm

The Vancouver Apneist Club is hosting occasional pool training/practice sessions on Wednesday evenings at the UBC Aquatic Centre. We are renting two lanes of the pool for freedive training and skills development. New and prospective freedivers are welcome to come out but please contact us first.

Our pool time is from 8:00pm to 9:30pm but please show up at least a half hour earlier for briefing, stretching and gearing up.

We have rented this pool time so just tell them you're with the freediving group. We're charging a $5 drop-in fee to cover the rental cost.

See you in the pool!

Diving on Vancovuer Island

2012/04/14 7:00 am
2012/04/15 6:00 pm

A group of us will be walking on to the ferry to go to Victoria for freediving on Saturday and or Sunday. I believe there will be people on the island both days so if you can only make one day then email the group as soon as possible so we can work out rides and get everyone from the ferry to the dive site.

Current lead contenders for Victoria area dive site are:
Ogden Point - easy to get to and hot showers available for a dollar
Spring Bay - Mindblowing invertebrate life

Speak up if your in so we can work the kinks out!

Dive Report: Lingcod Egg Mass Survey Dive #2

The Vancouver Aquarium Lingcod Egg Mass Survey is over for another year, but on March 4 Tom, Paul and I went out for one last look for eggs. Paul's car co-operated and he made the long car-ferry-bus-train-carpool trip to Porteau. If all club members put as much effort into making a dive happen as our members on the island we could probably charter a boat once a month. In any case it's great that they make the effort, and we'll have to repay the favour by planning a Vancouver Island dive soon.

Dive Report: Lingcod Egg Mass Survey Dive #1

This past weekend, Murat, Greg, David Denz and myself got in the water for a little cold water snorkeling in the form of a Lingcod egg mass survey dive at Porteau. Paul Lescarmure was slated to join us, but car trouble meant he was unable to catch the early ferry required to make it over to us in time.

Lingcod Egg Mass Survey Dive #2

2012/02/26 10:00 am

It's that time of year again. Visibility is great and the Lingcod are spawning. The tentative plan for this dive is to do a "Whytecliff Express" drift dive. We'll meet at Whytecliff and then walk over to the next bay to catch the tide. If the weathers not good for this then we could try Ansell or Porteau...

The tide on Sunday is up and down, hence the drift dive. Lets plan to meet up at 10am. Don't hesitate to get touch via the yahoo group to help organize car pools.

Instructions for gathering lingcod egg mass data is here: http://www.vanaqua.org/act/research/fish/lingcod-survey
