Our first eelgrass survey on Mayne Island was a big success. We had a full crew, the weather and hospitality were fabulous and we accomplished all of our primary and secondary objectives for the weekend. |

The Mayne Island Conservancy Society has contacted the club requesting a team of freedivers for an extensive eelgrass survey on their island. Our group was highly recommended for our help with several other eelgrass surveys over the years. If you take the ferry from Tsawwassen to Victoria, Mayne is the island to the left as you go through Active Pass. It is a beautiful island with several protected sandy bays, meaning lots of eelgrass habitat. |

This will probably be the second to last opportunity to do a survey dive for the Vancouver Aquarium's Lingcod Egg Mass Survey this year. We'll be gathering 10am at Whytecliff Park. The plan is to use the falling tide to take us from Lookout Point to Whytecliff Park. |

Members of the Vancouver Apneist Club will be starting the dive season by participating in the Vancouver Aquarium's 16th annual Lingcod Egg Mass Survey. Most participants use scuba but Vanapneists do the survey while freediving only. We will be heading out most weekends. To find out when and where we are diving and possibly join in, contact tom@vancouverapneist.com. For more information or to register survey data go to the Vancouver Aquarium's website: |

On Sept 21 /08 the Vancouver Apneist Club teamed up with Ocean Pro Divers www.oceanprodivers.com, the Friends of Semiahmoo Bay www.birdsonthebay.ca and a few other volunteer groups in a joint effort to clean up Blackie Spit. Everyone met at 10:00am when registration with free coffee started. After that the organic cotton t-shirts and lunch tickets were handed out. In water time wasn’t until 12:00 so there was enough time to check out the dive site, it had fairly shallow depths and decent visibility- a lot better than expected. |
