Second Annual Christmas Tree Decorating Event

Sarah with the decorated tree

The Vancouver Apneist Freediving Club had its second annual underwater Christmas tree decorating event on December 6th. Like last year it was raining and we had only four divers who were brave enough to brave the 7 degrees Celsius water. However, we had much more shore support than the last year and we were able to actually get the tree pointing upright and decorated.

Big thanks to newcomers Ed and Sarah for rounding out the underwater team and to Nikkey and Patti for supplying the hot drinks.

New Years Day Freedive/Snorkel

2009/01/01 12:00 pm

The Vancouver Apneist club will have its first annual New Year's Day Freedive/Snorkel at noon at Whytecliff Park. Unlike at the polar bear swim, wetsuits will be allowed and are highly recommended.

We will reconvene at 2pm for lunch and drinks at a pub or restaurant to be announced. (Depends on how many and whether or not there are kids in tow.) All non-divers and family members are welcome to join in.

2nd Annual Pumkin Carving Contest

Four jack-o-lanterns at the bottom of the lake

The Vancouver Apneist Freediving Club held its second annual pumkin carving contest on October 25th. After a couple of last-minute cancellations, four contestants braved the chilly water to carve their pumpkins while holding their breaths: Nikkey Ward, Greg Fee, Andrew Hogan and Tom Lightfoot.

Easter Egg Hunt at Belcarra Park

Group shot at the Easter Egg hunt

On Easter Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11am members of Vancouver Apneists gathered at Belcarra Park in Port Moody for an “Easter egg” hunt.

A counted number of golf balls were thrown into a specified area of the water just north of the dock and within about 50 m of the shoreline. Vanapneists used their underwater hunting skills to gather as many “eggs” as they could before they were all collected.
